Abstract:
Cell-derived decellularized extracellular matrix (dcECM) attracts increasing research interest as a key regulator of the local microenvironment. Furthermore, the simplicity of manufacturing, tissue specificity and lack of limitations inherent to tissue decellularized extracellular matrix determine the feasibility of its use within the realm of regenerative medicine and tissue engineering. The present review seeks to systematize the current approaches employed in dcECM microscopy, with particular emphasis on the possibility of the observations of vital native ECM structures. Current methods of morphometry of cellular dcECM are also considered. The authors present their own data obtained during the study of dcECM of cultured human multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) as illustrations.
