Abstract:
Issues related to control using hand movements in space fl ight (SF) are extremely important. The safety of SF depends on the success of the operator’s activities. The infl uence of the SF factor (support unloading) was studied using a ground-based model of “dry” immersion (DI). The study was conducted in conditions of DI lasting seven days. A visual-motor task consisting of using a joystick to move a cursor from the center of the screen to randomly appearing peripheral targets was used to assess the effect of DI on cursor movement parameters in four directions in 10 subjects. Differences in task performance time and accuracy depending on the direction of hand movement were found in control studies, and these persisted during and after the effect of DI. In the fi rst days of DI, most of the cursor movement parameters assessed worsened, regardless of direction; restoration occurred by the end of immersion. The extent of the impact of DI on cursor move-ment parameters differed depending on the direction of hand movement and was greatest in the fi rst days of DI. The smallest impact of DI was on the movement from left to right
