Abstract: Negative pressure breathing (NPB) is breathing using various devices, during which the average pressure in the airways during the respiratory cycle is lower than the average pressure acting on the chest. One of the variants of NPB is NPB on inhalation, in which negative pressure is created only during the inhalation phase (NPBin). Since the 1990s NPB and NPBin have been proposed to be used as a means of preventing the undesirable redistribution of body fluids in the cranial direction during space flight. In ground conditions in medicine NPBin is used to increase the effectiveness of resuscitation measures, as well as to maintain the proper values of central hemodynamics during blood loss. This paper discusses the effect of body position on the physiological effects of NPBin, and compares with the results of using NPBin in dry immersion (DI) conditions. During the experiment, the changes in the values of the central hemodynamics parameters and in the distribution of body fluids by body regions caused by NPBin were evaluated. It has been shown that the amplitude of oscillations of physiological parameters synchronous with breathing increases at NPBin, the effect of DI and body position on the reactions caused by NPBin is manifested mainly in a change in the amplitude of oscillations. The observations made in this study allow extrapolation of the results previously obtained using NPBin in the horizontal supine position to a wider range of experimental conditions.
