Abstract:
Self-contained self-rescue (SCSR) breathing devices are the only option for providing breathable air if hazardous components cannot be removed from external air after underground accidents. In this study, we developed a mathematical model of human breathing with an SCSR apparatus. The model describes the gas-content dynamics in the three system compartments: the lungs, body tissues and a SCSR apparatus. The results of simulations agreed well with experimental data obtained from a volunteer breathing through the apparatus.
